Volunteer Programme - Teaching at Monastery:

The main objectives of this monastery volunteer program is to enable Buddhist monks to develop an additional language skill. By the end of Buddhist high school graduation they will be able to explain their way of life and what they learned about Buddhist philosophy during their time at school. This program gives the volunteer the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Buddhist way of life while teaching English in the school of a Buddhist Monastery.

This is an ideal opportunity for those who are passionate about working with children and who are interested in Buddhism. Morning and late evening is free time in which you can join in meditation, rituals, prayers and songs with Buddhist Monks if you wish.

The VFN/Nepal will manage all the activities related working in Gomba (Monastery). Though predominantly a Hindu country, Buddhism is also practiced by many Tibetan people who are in exile in Nepal. This is a perfect project if you are interested in Buddhism and the life of Buddhist monks.

What skills do I need?
No previous teaching experience is required, though it is preferred. Volunteers joining the Buddhist monk teaching programs in Nepal should be fluent in both written and spoken English. Volunteers do not need to be native English speakers if they possess sufficient fluency. Volunteers who are flexible, patient and interested in the lifestyle of Buddhist monks will enjoy this program.
